Musango in the making

Musango has worked with the same family-run factory in Portugal from the very beginning. All of our pieces for the UK and Europe are made there. Portugal has a long tradition of pottery, known for its quality and careful craftsmanship, and we are proud to work with artisans who continue that tradition today.

All of our pieces are made by hand. Our Eats range is formed using a pressing technique, while our mugs and jugs are produced using traditional slip casting. This involves pouring liquid clay into moulds that we design ourselves, allowing the clay to take on the shape of each piece.

Once removed from the moulds, each piece passes through the hands of skilled artisans who refine it by carving, shaping and smoothing the surface. This stage gives the pieces their final form.

After firing, the pieces are hand-painted and glazed using one of our fifteen colours and five designs. Each application and brushstroke is applied by hand, which means no two pieces are exactly the same. Small variations are part of the process and what make each piece unique.
